On May 18th, the Kraemer Jazz Band performed with Valencia’s Jazz Band at the Valencia Auditorium. The concert also included performances from guest star Alex Hahn, who is a professional saxophone player. He created his first jazz album in 2014 and has been traveling to concerts all around America to perform. In addition to his tour, he has performed at multiple jazz festivals, won numerous awards from famous magazines, and has even recorded in parts of Michael Buble’s most recent album.

The concert began with the Kraemer Jazz Band performing “Blues Walk”, which held a variety of solos from Israel R., Jack G., Nick A. Cole S., Vivek S., and Peter M. The next song was called “Shadow of your Smile,” which was a slowed down jazz piece starring Megan E. on piano and Justice A. on trumpet. Following the slow-paced song came a Frank Sinatra song called “A Day in the Life of a Fool”. The song included two solos from Jack G. on saxophone and Young K. on the trumpet. After that, they performed a song called “Birdland”, created by the Weather Report which held a funky vibe any audience would enjoy. Finally, the Kraemer Jazz Band performed with the guest artist Alex Hahn on “I Got’s the Sleepy Man’s Blues”. Alex Han had shared with the audience that he had created this song in the middle of the night when he couldn’t sleep due to the excitement of creating a new album. He eventually found a rhythm that fit the melody of the song and created the song the next day. Before Alex Han played with the band, there was a solo performed by Peter M. on the tenor saxophone, Young K. on the trumpet, and Jack G. on the alto saxophone. Overall the performance from the Kraemer Jazz Band showed off their hard work, determination, and perseverance throughout the year

After the Kraemer Jazz Band was done with their set, the Valencia Jazz Band came and played their set of songs. Valencia’s Jazz Band had an impressive set of songs which expressed the skill and devotion needed in playing the difficult songs.

Overall, both the Valencia and Kraemer Jazz Band had a successful concert that proved to be entertaining for everyone attending the concert. If students happen to see Mr. Gunderson or students in the jazz band, make sure to give them feedback on the amazing work that they produce!
