A natural beauty found in Iceland.

One of the most scenic and peaceful places on Earth is Iceland. Located north of the U.K., Iceland is considered part of Scandinavia along with Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. Known for its natural wonders and scenic views, Iceland is definitely one of the most peaceful and great places on Earth.

Iceland is located east of Greenland. They are both countries that are located far, far north. Geographically, Iceland is one of the most northern countries in the world. As a result of its location, Iceland gets about 5 hours of effective sunlight during the winter, and nearly 21 hours in the summer, meaning there are only about three hours without sunlight! Year round, temperatures in Iceland usually stay from 30℉ to 60℉, with an average of 50℉-55℉. The population of Iceland is only a mere 334,252 people!

Nature is obviously a major part of Iceland. The island country offers many great natural attractions. Gullfoss Waterfall is one great attraction. This natural wonder is home of an amazing waterfall that crashes down over an enormous cliff. Visitors come to enjoy the sparkling water that cascades down the rocky cliff. Another great attraction, one of the most popular, is the Blue Lagoon. Located in southwestern Iceland, the Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa. This is a hot spring heated entirely by the Earth. The Blue Lagoon attracts many tourists due to its uniqueness. This hot spring is very healing for the skin, and is known to cure the skin of some conditions. The sulphur in the water helps with the healing, but also gives the Blue Lagoon a distinctive smell of rotten eggs. It’s not the best smell, but most people ignore it to enjoy the warm, healing waters.

Iceland’s capital is Reykjavik. (pronounced Rake-ya-vick) One of the most modern and developed places in the world, Reykjavik houses most of the population of Icelandic people. The city was established in 1786 as a small trading town, and steadily grew over the centuries. These days, Reykjavik is a colorful city that has many small bright apartments and some tall buildings.Enormous businesses aren’t common in Iceland due to its population, so Reykjavik doesn’t have any skyscrapers, and is mainly a cheerful, colorful small city that is perfect to travel to. One place to visit in Reykjavik is Hallgrímskirkja, a Lutheran cathedral. One of the tallest buildings in the world, the striking white tower rises over Reykjavik. Another place to go is the Golden Circle. As a large geyser, this attracts many visitors, and is top in terms in popularity in Iceland.
