A holiday can be a day of fun, or seriousness in which people around the world put aside their daily activities to celebrate something. Different cultures/ethnicities/religions observe holidays fitting to their custom(s). There are a plethora of holidays; Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Hanukkah, are a few examples of the major ones. While these celebrations are definitely special, there are other small and relatively unknown ‘holidays’ everyday. Here are some of the weirdest unofficial holidays in the world.


Spaghetti Day – January 4th

This unofficial holiday is exactly what it sounds like. It celebrates the strand pasta of spaghetti, a savory dish including marinara sauce, spaghetti noodles, and a few meatballs.


Ditch Your New Year’s Resolutions Day – January 17th

Along with being Benjamin Franklin Day, Ditch Your New Year’s Resolutions day celebrates the incredible laziness of the common man (or woman). However greatly overshadowed by Benjamin Franklin it is, it is never to late (or early) to start ditching one’s New Year’s resolutions.


National Pizza Day – February 9th

Pizza Day celebrates a food loved by possibly every human being on the face of planet Earth. There are many different types of pizzas, and they can topped with almost any and every food item imaginable. Pizza, the delicious traditional Italian dish has become an American sensation.


Singles’ Awareness Day – February 15th

For those who are feeling lonely on Valentines’ Day, fear not! Singles’ awareness day is a holiday in which anybody (that’s single) can celebrate their loneliness and independence. Taking place right after Valentine’s’ Day, February 14th, Single’s Awareness Day raises the importance of recognizing those in society that don’t have a significant other, and are fine with it! (or not)


Lima Bean Respect Day – April 20th

This holiday was made to honor the great lima bean, a type of legume. Apparently, people found this food so healthy and delicious, they thought that the lima bean deserved more respect than just another common legume. Therefore, Lima Bean Respect Day was created.


Batman Day – May 1st

Batman, the mysterious superhero/vigilante of Gotham City, also known as Bruce Wayne is a fictional character in the classic comic Batman. People who celebrate this unofficial holiday can dress up in a Batman costume or just sit down and enjoy some of their favorite Batman comics.


There are many, many bizarre holidays throughout the year, They can be fun, but they can also be extremely strange. Why these holidays were ever created in the first place on may never know.
