Now that the extremely rare and limited edition Unicorn Frappuccino is no longer being served at the popular coffee shop that many call Starbucks, two new mythical themed frappuccinos are currently available and luckily they are here to stay! The magical Dragon Frappuccino was created by some baristas who wanted to ease the disappointment for those who were looking to purchase the discontinued Unicorn Frap. The Mermaid Frappuccino was created as a fun twist on the coffee shop’s logo. Luckily, customers even say that the Dragon and Mermaid Frappuccinos taste even better than the unicorn one. That was probably because it used more common ingredients to create it and the unicorn version was either a love or hate situation for those who may not be such a fan of sour flavors.

Many agree that it’s hard to go wrong with the delicious Dragon Frap. It’s deliciously sweet and just as appealing in looks as well. The base is a bright green tea frappuccino with purple syrup drizzled along the sides of the cup, but other stores have also gotten quite creative by adding splashes of red and pink to make the drink even more enticing to the eye. The recipe may vary from location to location, depending on what ingredients the store has, however the general one being distributed is this one…

  • Base: Green tea frappuccino
    • Add a scoop of vanilla bean powder
    • A layer of berry syrup at the bottom of the cup
    • Top with whipped cream and purple sprinkles
    • Optional: Add a pump of coconut syrup

It is said that sometimes the berry syrup can be a challenge to find as it was made with the pink and purple powder used for the Unicorn Frappuccino combined with white mocha syrup. So just in case the alternate recipe for the berry syrup can be created by mixing white mocha syrup and dried berries to drizzle around the cup. A pump of strawberry syrup also works for a more pinkish/reddish look.

Since the reveal of the Dragon Frappuccino, a newly released mythical frappuccino has been gaining more and more attention. Continuing with the trend of magical fraps, Starbucks now has the Mermaid Frappuccino breaking into the social media scenes. The new addition to the trendy drinks, is quite fitting since Starbucks’ earliest logo is a twin-tailed mermaid or siren. Like its fiery counterpart, the Dragon Frappuccino, the mermaid version uses ingredients that are available at the coffee shop year-round so that there is no worry of it being discontinued. The Mermaid Frap is a dazzling blend of bright pink berry hues with vivid green matcha undertones and is just as tasty as it is eye-catching. The most popular recipe for the Mermaid Frappuccino is this one…

  • Base: Vanilla bean frappuccino
    • Add freeze dried whole blackberries
    • Line the cup with green mixed drizzle by combining…
      • 8 pumps of white mocha sauce
      • 3 pumps of toasted coconut syrup
      • 3 heaping scoops of matcha powder
      • Mix in pitcher until smooth and pour into a gravity bottle
    • Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of matcha powder

Both of these amazingly delicious and magical frappuccinos are a must try for those who visit Starbucks often. Seventh grade student currently attending Kraemer, Kaitlin K., gives her opinion on the two mythical frappuccinos saying, “I enjoy going to Starbucks regularly and can’t wait to try their new magical frappuccino flavors!”
