The James Bond movie series was and still is a very popular movie series. Clifton James was an actor in the series and the character he played was named Sheriff JW Pepper. The sheriff was featured in the James Bond films Live and Let Die and The Man With the Golden Gun usually appearing alongside Sir Roger Moore. His full name is George Clifton James and he was born May 29, 1920, in Spokane, Washington. He was the oldest of the five siblings in the house and the only boy. During the Great Depression his family lost all its money and had to move.  They landed in Gladstone, Oregon, which is just outside the city Portland, where James’ maternal grandparents lived. In the 1930s, James started working with the Civilian Conservation Corps and after, entered World War II in the year 1942 as a soldier of  the U.S. Army fighting in the South Pacific. He  received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and a Silver Star in his work. His daughter, who is named Lynn James, said that he  died on Saturday, April the 15th in Gladstone, Oregon, due to complications from diabetes.

In 1973, when they produced the movie Live and Let Die, Clifton James made a memorable appearance in a chaotic boat chase scene. His character proved very popular in the first movie, which led to him being asked to play as the Sheriff again in 1974 for the next Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun. Most Bond characters were usually played for one movie, so being played in two was very rare. The movie had him involved in another chase, but instead of in a boat, he was driving a car. He also filmed a scene in Thailand where he got pushed into the water by a baby elephant.

Many people are sad about Clifton James and his passing away. Lynn James (his daughter) said, “He was the most outgoing person, beloved by everybody, I don’t think the man had an enemy. We were incredibly blessed to have had him in our lives.” Then, on Twitter, Sir Roger wrote, “Terribly sad to hear Clifton James has left us. As JW Pepper he gave my first two Bond films a great, fun character.”
