Many people spend a large amount of time of their daily lives watching Youtube, but many don’t know the history of this entertainment website. Youtube is a huge video streaming company where users can both publish and watch videos.

Youtube was founded in early 2005 by PayPal workers who wanted to share videos. These Paypal workers were Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. Youtube had a rough start and was losing a massive amount of money, but some negotiating allowed this start-up website to gain a sponsor. In the summer of 2006, Youtube started growing an insane amount and soon became one of the most popular websites out there. On October 9th, 2006, Google purchased Youtube for 1.65 billion dollars! Youtube has grown to be one of the largest and most famous websites.

Today, Youtube is a huge part of many people’s daily lives and has made a huge impact on the world we use today. To begin, Youtube is an enormous part of education that allows teachers to share videos and show their students these videos. Also, Youtube has a humongous impact on politics. Many politicians send out messages to their supporters using Youtube. People view the places they cannot visit in the world with Youtube.People spend 1, 325,000, 000 hours every month watching Youtube? About 300 videos are being uploaded to Youtube every minute, making Youtube the number 2 most visited site in the entire world (following Google)! The many people who upload videos make a living out of doing this. These people who have a huge amount of fans, generating a couple million dollars a year from themselves. Youtube also benefits from hosting an enormous site. 99% of the money made by Youtube is from ads that Youtube has placed in people’s videos. Currently, Youtube makes more than 10 billion dollars every year.  Music artist PSY got famous by posting his most known song “Gangnam Style”, which has racked up nearly 3 billion views, taking its spot in the most watch video on Youtube. Anyone can upload videos to Youtube to share with their friends or even make a small profit from their videos. Once someone gets more and more popular, their subscribers increase. Currently “PewDiePie” has the most subscribers in the world with a subscriber count of nearly 50 million.

Youtube has made a huge impact on the world and continues to generate a very valuable industry. In spite of this, many people forget the 3 people who founded Youtube and started this all – Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. Without these 3 people’s hard work and perseverance, today we wouldn’t have Youtube. Larry H., a student at Kraemer says “I watch Youtube every day and without it, life is empty!” As you can see, Youtube has a colorful history and truly is a big part of the modern society.
