The Red Hatted Plumber vs. The Blue Speedster

People have enjoyed playing Mario games and Sonic games for years now, but there has also been some rivalries between them over who is better the red-hatted plumber, or the blue speedster, like how a student at Kraemer, Nolan D. said that,” Sonic is better because he can fly (in super-sonic form).”

Mario’s first appearance in games, surprisingly, was Donkey Kong, made in 1981, which started as a game with Mario climbing ladders and jumping over barrels to save Pauline, not Peach, from the evil gorilla Donkey Kong (created by Nintendo). Sonic’s first appearance was the classic side scrolling game, Sonic the Hedgehog, where Sonic had to save all the animals in the game with his speed and jumping ability from the diabolical Dr. Eggman, also called Dr. Robotnik, (created by Sega). Both series have been advancing the quality and enjoyment of their games, with Nintendo updating Mario’s appearance and adding abilities such as Fire Power, Propeller, Ice Power, and more, and changing the format from sidescrolling to 3-D movement with multiplayer battles like in Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario Galaxy. Nintendo has also been changing the gameplay and format of Mario, with him driving a go cart, becoming paper, or playing sports. Sega has been updating their games with 3-D side scrolling as well, and like Nintendo they have been changing the different abilities of Sonic with each game either with him wielding a sword, riding a hoverboard, or just plain running through the streets. Even though they are rivals, they have also appeared in games together, like the Olympic Games Series, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. So, even if the games themselves are in ways similar, people can agree that one is better than the other, so which hero do you choose?
