The release date of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been pushed back several times.

The Legend of Zelda has been one of Nintendo’s most successful franchises, beginning in 1986, and still thriving to this day. Recently, a lot more information has been released about the latest installment in the series. Although still unnamed, the sequel to Breath of the Wild has drawn the attention of almost every Nintendo fan. In April, an announcement was sent out notifying the public about a decision made, a decision pushing back the launch date to spring of 2023 instead of a summer 2022 release. This leaves not only avid fans, but even newer fans wondering, what’s causing another postponement? Is their decision necessarily a good thing?

To begin, one needs to think back to the release of the original Breath of the Wild. The title was originally planned to release back in 2015 on the Wii U, but following two setbacks, it was actually released in 2017 as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch. As one can see, a delay is not always a bad thing, with Breath of the Wild being proof because it is arguably one of the greatest video games of that year and continues to be an impressive work of code. People all over the internet will continue to complain about the release date, but it is clear to see that more time to work will allow for more diagnostics, improvements, and testing time, all things needed to help polish the game.

Aside from the problem with the actual release date, a large portion of the concern still lies in what the game will be like. The reason this was of interest is because of the reveal trailer at E3 2021. The trailer included Link traveling through what seemed to be large amounts of sky islands, bringing the question of if the game will still be open-world like its predecessor. Fans should not be worried, as it was said by many developers that the game will “see gameplay extend up into the skies.”

As for now, it’s up to people to wait for this game’s release. It is then that the information wanted will likely be revealed whether fans like it or not. In summary, the game might release in the spring of 2023, although it should be expected to be pushed back further. Mentioned overhead, the release date being pushed back is more of a good thing than a bad, as it allows for further development of the game, changing writing, fixing bugs, and really just polishing The Sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
