Basketball is a sport that many people love, and there have been a lot of great players throughout the history of basketball. One of the most known players in the 21st century is Kobe Bryant. He is no longer part of the NBA due to a tragic accident that cost him his life in 2020. Even though he has passed, he is still remembered for his outstanding athleticism in basketball. He was a former basketball player for the Lakers team and won five NBA titles. Also, in 2008, he won the MVP award from the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe Bryant can be seen as an athlete that will be remembered throughout history.

Kobe Bryant was born on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was the son of Joe Bryant, a former NBA player. Kobe was a stellar basketball player until he died in a helicopter crash with his 13-year-old daughter and with seven others on January 26, 2020. Growing up, Kobe did well in school, but his goal was to join the NBA. In high school, Bryant joined the Lower Merion High School basketball team and led it to state championships four times in a row. After high school, Kobe Bryant went straight to the NBA and was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th overall pick of the 1996 NBA draft. He was later traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1998, he became the youngest All-Star in NBA history at the age of 19. Los Angeles suffered a lot of losses after Shaquille O’Neal left in 2004. However, Bryant was able to score 81 points against the Toronto Raptors in January 2006. This was the second-highest single-game mark in NBA history. In 2008, Kobe and his team lost the NBA finals to the Boston Celtics, but in the following year, the Lakers beat the Orlando Magic to win the championship and beat the Celtics in 2009. Kobe Bryant was also part of the U.S. Olympic teams, winning gold medals both in 2009 and 2012.

During Kobe Bryant’s basketball career, it wasn’t always easy. He suffered a lot of injuries, such as a torn Achilles tendon in April 2013, and also fractured his knees just six games into the 2013-2014 season. The injury that ended his season in 2015 was when he tore his rotator cuff. In November 2015, Kobe Bryant decided to retire from basketball at the end of the season. Before his retirement in 2016, he scored 60 points leading to a win against the Utah Jazz. Outside of basketball, he had a nonprofit organization called Afterschool All-Stars and ran an annual summer camp called Kobe Basketball Academy.

Sadly, in 2020, Kobe Bryant’s life ended in a helicopter crash that devastated all his fans and family. Kobe Bryant will never be forgotten and will always be remembered as one of the most skilled basketball players to ever play the game of basketball.
