The 2022 Winter Olympics

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the summer Olympics was held in 2021. Now, in 2022, the Winter Olympics will be coming soon. This year is the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, but it might be a bit different considering the coronavirus is still spreading rapidly throughout the world. Because of this, certain conditions might be changed.

To start, the 24th winter Olympics will be held in Beijing. This year, China will become the first country to host both the Winter Olympics and the Summer Olympics. In 2008, Beijing had the summer Olympics, and now there is the winter Olympics in 2022. The event is scheduled to last from February 4, 2022, to February 20, 2022, about 16 days. This time around, the organizing committee president will be Qi Cai and Zhang Jiangdong, located at Shougang Xishi Center, 68, Shijingshan Road, Shijingshan District, 100041 Beijing People’s Republic of China.

This year, many events are returning from the Winter Olympics in 2018, Including the popular ones, such as figure skating, ice hockey, snowboarding, bobsleighing, and ski jump. The competitors perform a series of routines on the ice in figure skating and get rated. Ice hockey is when people using hockey sticks try to get the puck into the opposing team’s goal. Snowboarding is similar to skiing, in which people try to get down a snowy hill as fast as possible. People attempt to go around an icy race track in bobsleighing using specially made sleighs that can reach up to 100 miles an hour. Finally, in ski jumping, people use a ramp to attempt to jump as far as possible while still doing it gracefully. These sports are fan favorites and are expected to have many people tuning in to see famous competitors such as Yuzuru Hanyu, Sidney Crosby, Shaun White, André Lange, and Matti Nyäken, respective to their sports. Although many athletes are expected to join the Olympics, there are some well-known ones that could not come due to coronavirus restrictions. In addition to this, China has decided to restrict the general population from spectating and not allow foreigners to spectate as well, and those without face coverings could face expulsion from the event. Competitors also have to have the coronavirus vaccine and at least 14 days buffer between the winter Olympics and their vaccine. The pandemic restrictions have even affected the U. S. Olympic team, as they are not allowed to fly commercial anymore and are forced to charter flights in place of this.

This year, the winter Olympics will begin on February 4, 2022, in Beijing, China. Although the pandemic is still spreading throughout the world, the International Olympic Committee is still proceeding with the XXIV Winter Games.
