Woods won his first major championship in over 11 years at the 2019 Masters, and he went on to tie Sam Snead’s career-high of 82 PGA Tour victories later that year.
Eldrick Tont Woods, better known as Tiger Woods, was born on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California, to a Thai mother and an African American Army officer father. When Woods was a toddler, his father began calling him “Tiger” in honor of a fellow soldier and comrade who shared the same name.
Woods learned how to play golf as a child. Earl, his father, was his instructor and mentor. By the age of eight, Woods had mastered the game and had even exhibited his skills on television shows like Good Morning America.
Before becoming a professional in 1996, Woods attended Stanford University and won a series of amateur golf events in the United States. At the age of 21, he became famous after winning the US Masters at Augusta in 1997 with setting the record score of 270. Woods was the first African American to win the championship, and he was the youngest person to do it.
Woods equaled the course record of 64 in his debut outing at the British Open later that year. In the following years, he won four US PGA titles, three US Open victories, three Open Championship victories, and three US Masters victories.
Two of Woods’ five victories in 2003 came at the Buick Invitational and the Western Open. Woods only won one official PGA Tour tournament the following year. While he faced some difficulties on the course, his home life was in order. In October 2004, Woods married his longtime girlfriend, a Swedish model, Elin Nordegren.
Sam Alexis Woods, his first child, was born on June 18, 2007. In August 2007, he won the World Golf Championship and the PGA Championship after taking some time off to have his daughter. On September 2, 2008, Woods and his wife revealed that they were expecting their second child in late winter. On February 8, 2009, the couple had their second child, Charlie Axel Woods.
To this day, Tiger Woods is living with his wonderful family, recovering from a horrifying car crash that happened in February. Woods hasn’t retired yet, but, however many people think that the car crash that he was in might jeopardize his career.
