Revolutionary Robots of the Future

Since the dawn of time, mankind has been making inventions to assist in labor. From a basic wheel to a tractor, humans made more and more technological breakthroughs. As more human needs were required to be met, more robotics companies made new revolutionary robots.

    Samsung, a Korean technology company, is creating two new home robots, Bot Handy and the JetBot 90 AI Plus. Both of these robots are useful in any environment to complete chores. For example, the Bot Handy uses a camera to determine the material something is made of to calculate the amount of force needed to manipulate it. This robot is capable of manipulating items of many different sizes and shapes with its universal grip. It can do many chores and services, such as loading the dishwasher, doing laundry, setting the table, pouring wine, and much more. The JetBot 90 AI Plus is a vacuum cleaner made by Samsung that operates using AI and Lidar. The AI camera detects toys, furniture, and even pets to clean near them.

    This year, Agility Robotics stepped up their game by upgrading its humanoid robot courier, Digit. The company made Digit completely self-sufficient, and all people have to do is give it a route and endpoint. With its commands, Digit will reach the designated location and bypass any obstacles that get in its way. Digit is the first humanoid robot with two legs that is commercially available. Its price is still unknown but is likely to be somewhere in the six-digit numbers. Digit can lift 18 kilograms of weight, interact with humans, and cooperate with other robots. Ford, Digit’s primary customer, plans on using Digit with its autonomous cars to make deliveries. Digit uses Lidar and multiple cameras to detect obstacles and quickly calculate a new route to reach its destination.

    As well as home bots and humanoid robots, robotics companies from all over the world have also made man’s best friend, robot dogs. Tencent, a Chinese holding company, provides many technological services such as AI, technology solutions, social networking, and more. This year, Tencent introduced another four-legged robot, Max. It uses both legs and wheels, which allows it to travel on legs and move on wheels at 25 kilometers per hour. Its software and hardware platforms allow Max to react to its surroundings and control its balance. Max is also capable of planning actions with only a calculation delay of 0.3 milliseconds. It is even able to stand up again after falling down. With all these amazing attributes, it’s hard to say Max isn’t a revolutionary robot.

    The earlier robots mentioned are meant to be operated on Earth; however, NASA has made a new invention that can work on the Red Planet, Mars. Ingenuity is a drone made by NASA to operate autonomously on Mars. It has successfully made four flights on Mars’ thin atmosphere, which is only 1% of Earth’s. Ingenuity will recharge its ion batteries using solar panels over the time span of 24 hours and 40 minutes. The ion batteries allow a 90-second flight which will be enough for Ingenuity to cover 300 meters of the exploration area. It is also only equipped with laser altimeters, a gyro stabilizer, and video cameras. One of these cameras is used for navigation, while the other is a 13-megapixel camera used to take surface pictures of Mars. Ingenuity’s main purpose is to gather data about the surrounding environment to make the Perseverance’s work to explore the area easier.

    From the comfort of people’s homes to the unknowns of outer space, companies from all over the world are making new robots to fit into all domains. Whether the robots are meant to make life easier or discover life, human society would not be the same without them. For this reason, robotics companies will not stop improving robots and AI to make life on or possibly outside of Earth better.
