Major Changes in the World of European Soccer

With Coronavirus cases in decline in many parts of the world, there are many hopes that this summer will be an exciting one. So many parts of life that have been largely closed off could open up again. Soccer fans in particular, could have an exciting time as drastic events across the board could make big changes in management. Despite just a busy transfer window for coaches and players, soccer fans can also look forward to the famous country event known as the Euros. European countries and their individual stars compete to bring home the gold.

One exciting aspect of the club break is outside soccer itself, but it heavily affects how the next soccer season could go. The end of this season has seen a surplus of moving coaches, and it seems as if there is more to come. With 11 coaches quitting or getting sacked in the Serie A alone, it is apparent that many clubs are not happy with their performance this year. For reference, there are only 20 teams in the Serie A. The Bundesliga is also expecting big changes, with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig and more top clubs getting new coaches. There have also been major developments in the other top leagues. Zinedine Zidane has shockingly left his position at Real Madrid. After the sacking of Jose Mourinho from Tottenham, PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino is rumored to want to return to his coaching position at the London club.

Besides just coaches being transferred, this is also expected to be a busy transfer window for players. There are many major players that could be transferred across Europe. First off, Spanish clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid are looking for an exciting transfer window. Both clubs, despite sharing in major debt, have incredibly deep benches. Many of the players on these benches are well-known, and yet many have struggled with playing time. Both Barca and Real could be looking to sell some of these players to ease their debt or buy new players. Barca has already made several free transfers such as Aguero, Depay, and more.

Meanwhile, in Ligue 1 (otherwise known as farmers league), Paris Saint-Germain is locked in a struggle to keep their young superstar, Kylian Mbappe. Although the PSG president has taken a firmer stance on the topic, there are still some doubts about whether or not Mbappe will stay in Paris. In a shocking turn of events, PSG has also become favorites in the race for Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, PSG has announced that they would like to loan the Italian Goalkeeper out, as they are satisfied with their current Goalie, Keylor Navas. The main topic in German football right now is the future of Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland. From early on in his career at Dortmund, there have been rumors about the 20-year-old Norwegian’s transfer. Currently, Chelsea is favorites for his destination at the end of the window. The other big news in Germany is Borussia Dortmund’s other young star, Jadon Sancho. Manchester United seems prepared to pay the large sum for the English striker, although it is unlikely that Dortmund will let go of both of their most valuable players. In Serie A, worldwide superstar Christiano Ronaldo is uncertain of his position at Juventus, and Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi is being bidden for by Chelsea and PSG.

The Premier Leagues’ transfer window is by far the most active. Manchester City has a multitude of players that they could be looking to sell and players to buy, such as Jack Grealish and Harry Kane. Chelsea is in a similar position, with lots of players to sell and a large wish list. After Aston Villa managed to sign Emi Buendia from Norwich, beating out Arsenal, Jack Grealish could be inclined to stay at the club another season. This also spells trouble for Arsenal after having a rough season and needing a good signing or two. Arsenal’s London rival, Tottenham, is most concerned with keeping their superstar, Harry Kane. Harry Kane is a very highly regarded player, and after announcing his unhappiness with Tottenham, there were many interested clubs. However, Harry Kane’s contract with Tottenham Hotspur does not end for several more years, meaning that Kane has very little leverage over the club. Tottenham also relies heavily on the striker to help them throughout the season. Many commentators have speculated that a Kane-less Tottenham would be another average team.

With many rumors across the board, the soccer world can expect an exciting transfer window and a very special upcoming season. Of course, this article did not come close to covering all of the transfers, or even all of the major details. The only way to find out how the transfer window truly unfolds is to wait patiently and watch.
