Disney Removes their Annual Passport Program

On January 14, 2021, the verified Disney Park News Twitter account announced that they would discontinue the Annual Passport program when they reopen this year. Since then, Disney has come out with information on what will happen when they do reopen.

People who already had annual passports were told that their money would be refunded due to the program’s cancellation. Since it costs over two-hundred dollars (without any deals for people older than ten to get a park hopper ticket to Disney for one person), people started to freak out on how expensive it would be to go when they reopen. So, Disney has begun working on a replacement for the program, which they have stated will come out in the near future.

For those who don’t know what Disney’s Annual Passport program is, here’s a brief explanation of it:  According to disneyland.disney.go.com, The website says, “Enjoy the benefits of a Disneyland Resort Annual Passport. Along with admission* on select days during the year to Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, or both parks depending on your pass type, you’ll also receive valuable discounts, outstanding offers, and invitations to special events.” Additionally, there used to be five different Disney Annual Passports that people could get. For this, people would have the option to pay it all at once or pay it off each month, in which case they can still use the benefits of the Disney Annual Passports.

The program has existed for 27 years and first started in June of 1983. The Disney Annual Passport program was perfect for people who lived nearby the parks since one has to live nearby to purchase a Disney Annual Passport. According to Disney’s website (disneyland.disney.go.com), the now-discontinued Annual Passport Program can give deals at shops, tickets, restaurants, and at their Disney Hotels located in the parks.

Although the removal of Disney’s Annual Passport program might worry some, it could be better than the Program is getting replaced. Disney’s Annual Passport Program has done its part to help out families with the price of the tickets, but now it’s time to move on and hope for everything to reopen and go back to normal.
