“Driver’s License”

On January 8th, a brand new single dropped that shocked the world. From the amazing start with her mother’s car noises to the heartfelt bridge to the chorus, this song is beautiful from start to finish. The most shocking part of this song is that it is written by a 17-year-old, Olivia Rodrigo. This song was released as the new year began, and it was a magical start to the music industry this year. “Driver’s License” isn’t any ordinary song, but it is heartfelt and gives off Taylor Swift vibes. Even Taylor Swift thinks so. She commented on Olivia’s Instagram post and said, “I say that’s my baby, and I’m really proud.” Olivia was so excited and said, “I just about died…”. Who wouldn’t be excited if their idol said they were proud of them.

Olivia Rodrigo showed the world her impressive songwriting skills when she wrote: “All I Want.” She played Nini Salazar-Roberts in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019. All I Want was one of the many songs that Nini sang in the Disney Plus original. Olivia has also appeared in An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success and Bizaardvark.

“Driver’s License” is at number 1 on Billboard’s Top 100 in the 3rd week of January and will most likely stay up there for a while. This song beat notable celebrities such as Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, but it jumped straight to number 1. This isn’t the only record that this song broke, but it also had the most streams in one day on Spotify for a non-holiday song. On January 11th, the song had 15.17 million streams globally but then broke that record on January 12th with 17.01 million streams globally. After the song was released, it had 65,873,080 streams for the week on Spotify.

Olivia’s song is full of emotion and sadness, and that is precisely the way she wrote it. She said that she was driving around listening to breakup songs, including Minor by Gracie Abrams, before writing. She was inspired, so she went home and sat down at her piano, and all her emotions just came out. In only one hour, she had the basic outline of her song with the help of many people, including her producer, who got it to the song that smashed world records. Hopefully, we see more songs from her in the future, but for now, she is still in high school and filming season 2 of her tv show.
