2020-2021 NFL Playoff Picture

In the NFL, there are 32 total teams and two different divisions, the AFC and NFC. Each division has 16 teams and plays 16 games until the playoffs. After the regular season, each team battles it out for a spot in the playoffs and hopefully will make it to the Superbowl. The 2020 to 2021 NFL season was a little different, but the Superbowl will continue as usual.

For the American league placements in order go, Chiefs, Bills, Steelers, Titans, Ravens, Browns, and the Colts. For the National League, the placements in order go, Packers, Saints, Seahawks, the Washington football team, Buccaneers, Rams, and Bears. These teams will all be entering the playoffs together for a chance in the Superbowl. The top seat for each division gets a goodbye, a free skip where those two teams don’t play in the first round of the playoffs. This means they automatically enter the semi-finals round of the playoffs. This year the top teams are the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers.

Before I talk about the playoffs, you should know about the Wildcard games. A Wildcard can be a team from any division that joins the division champions as a playoff team. The Wildcard teams are made of the NFL teams that were the closest to making the playoffs. They get a second chance to enter the playoffs, but they must play the top seat to be back in.

The playoffs officially start on Saturday, January 9th, 2021, 10:05 PST. The first match will comprise the Colts against the Bills. They are playing in the Wildcard games for a seat in the divisional playoffs, which will start a little later. There are three teams in the Wildcard from both divisions, the AFC and NFC. Once those games are decided, the divisional playoffs will start, which will determine the Conference Championship. At this point, only two teams remain, one from the NFC and one from the AFC. Those teams will be in Superbowl 55, which will occur on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

Before the Superbowl, the NFL hosts something called the AFC-NFC ProBowl. This is an Allstar player only game where the best players will be playing. The team captains for this event are two honoraries NFL Hall of Famers. These people were some of the best football players of their time. This game doesn’t have a date yet but is played around the end of the regular season and was started on January 1951. This season has had difficulties and lots of rescheduling, but the Superbowl will be as great as it normally is.
