Many people around the world that own a phone have certain apps that they enjoy using in their free time. Whether it is an IOS or Android device, people find a way to use their phones in their free time. Although there are many addictive apps in the app store, there are two apps that most kids and adults have on their phones. No matter how old or young they are, Instagram and Snapchat is their life. So the question many people have is why are Instagram and Snapchat so addictive?

Let’s start off with Snapchat. The main reason why Snapchat is addicting to people is because of streaks. On the app, streaks are a way to measure success. It turns out, the more streaks you have with a friend, the closer you are with them. And the higher the streak count is, the more addictive the app becomes because if a person forgets to send their streaks to their friend, they will have to restart again. To add on, people that have Snapchat say that they like to receive messages and always get updated on the newest trends. This concerns many parents because their kids are spending more time on their phones than other important activities like sports.

Like Snapchat, Instagram is a truly addictive app. There are many things a person can do on Instagram. For example, people might go on Instagram to watch videos or talk to their friends. However, Instagram is mostly used for filters. Although many phones take good pictures and have good quality, people use those pictures to edit it and make it look better. In addition, these pictures are posted for popularity-wise like Snapchat. Every few minutes, people always check Instagram because they want to see how many comments and likes they got on their new posts.

In conclusion, Instagram and Snapchat have many things that make the app so popular. Kids, adults, and celebrities use these apps to keep others updated on what’s going on in their life. The reason why this app never gets old for people is that there are over millions of posts each day. So, scrolling down and finding something new is eye-catching which causes long hours on devices instead of outdoor activities and bonding with friends in real life. Apps like these have taken over people’s lives because when they go onto it, it destroys communication skills and actually talking to other people rather than on a phone.
