The State of the Union is a speech that takes place every year, spoken by the President of the United States

The State of the Union is an address given by the President of the United States (POTUS) annually. Many of the high ranking officials in the government, including members of Congress and the Senate, attend the State of the Union address. On February 4th this year, President Donald Trump gave the address to a large audience of government members at the House Chamber.  Mike Pence, America’s vice president, and Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, were seated behind Donald Trump.

Trump’s 2020 State of the Union emphasized what was happening in America’s economy. He said that “jobs are booming, incomes are soaring, poverty is plummeting crime is falling, confidence is surging, and our country is thriving and highly respected again!” Not only does Trump talk about the economic rise, but he also talks about the morale of the American people. “Our families are flourishing. Our values are renewed. Our pride is restored”, said Trump.  There were many people left unemployed in America, and in the State of the Union address, the president described how the unemployment Hispanic-Americans, Asian-Americans, and African-Americans has reached the lowest point in history. He also announced the unemployment rate of veterans and disabled people was at one of its lowest points. Some other important parts of Donald Trump’s State of the Union (SOTU) was about Trump talking about planting 1 million trees, freedom scholarships, healthcare programs, the American Infrastructure, the drug crisis, the illegal immigration crisis, and more.
Besides some of the announcements that Trump made, there were some other highlights of the State of the Union as well. The first of which  is Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the United States House of Representatives). When she was about to shake Trump’s hand, he abruptly turned around without shaking her hand. Seated behind where Trump was standing, she could be seen at multiple instances muttering to herself and shaking her head, probably about what Trump was saying. One of the biggest shockers during this speech was when Trump finished, Nancy Pelosi ripped apart the State of the Union Address! Many people have been shocked due to her actions. Matt Gaetz has recently filled an ethics charge for destroying the SOTU 2020 speech. Trump also invited many guests to the speech, and told of their story. Some of these guests including one of the last surviving Tuskegee airmen, Charles Mcgee. Rush Limbaugh, a very popular radio personality, was also awarded the Medal of Freedom, the highest award a civilian can be granted.
