In 2017, three men from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) attacked London citizens by ramming them with a vehicle. This on innocent pedestrians was one of many terrorist attacks that have occurred across the world, traumatizing citizens, and anyone that has been affected. A total of eight people were killed, and many more were injured. This attack on London scared many people, but little did they know that another assault would unfold upon them on December 2, 2019.
Usman Khan, the convicted attacker had stabbed two people to death and injured three others. Khan was released from prison in 2018 after he was convicted for planning terror attacks. The three that died on the day of the attack were named Jack Merritt, 25, and Saskia Jones, 23, and Usman Khan who was shot down from a police officer that responded to an emergency calls. Both graduates of Cambridge University, and involved in a network of academics and criminal justice organizations. Both were on the bridge attending an event at Fishmongers Hall, which was where Khan attacked both individuals. In the attack, only three others were injured in the process.
Khan was subdued by several bystanders that wielded a fire extinguisher and an apparent narwhal tusk taken from Fishmonger’s hall. Days later, police confirmed that one of the bystanders that helped subdue Khan was in fact, an off-duty police officer. The officer disarmed Khan of one of the two knives that he carried on his body. Khan was wearing a fake suicide vest, and police have not found any reason why he was wearing said vest. The mayor of London has praised the individuals that fought against Khan for helping to stop taking more victims in his violent rampage.
Many citizens, and townspeople from the surrounding cafes and shops quickly rushed out fearing it could be the next London bridge attack. As Khan lived about one hundred sixty-one miles away from the London Bridge in Staffordshire, police immediately investigated inside Khan’s home searching for a reason why he attacked the victims. The families of both deceased victims mourn their loss, and many prayers and sympathies have been sent towards the families as two of their children have been lost to a terror attack. People around the city have placed flowers on the London bridge sign to memorize the two people that have died to the stabbing attack.
