Nowadays, with the United States Presidential elections coming up, it’s hard to have a healthy conversation without stumbling upon the topic of politics. President Donald Trump is seeking re-election in 2020, which means that the Democratic Party will have to nominate a presidential candidate to go up against President Trump.

Elizabeth Warren has been a senator of the United States since 2012 and has now decided to run for president of the US. Senator Warren started off as a kid living in “the ragged edge of the middle class” as she calls it. Warren believes that capital punishment/the death penalty should be abolished. She also believes in raising the federal minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour and legalizing marijuana. She quotes, “America’s middle class is getting hammered, and Washington is rigged to work for the big guy.” Warren currently has a 3% lead over Joe Biden in the polls.

Behind Warren in the democratic polls is Joe Biden. Joe Biden served in the United States Senate from 1973 to 2009 and then served as Vice President of the United States from 2009 to 2017 under President Barack Obama. Biden believes that a college education should be free. He also thinks that the US should ban assault weapons and have a universal background check before providing citizens with guns. Biden quotes, “We are America, second to none, and we own the finish line. Don’t forget it.”

Third in the democratic polls is Senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders has been a senator since 2006 and came from Vermont. Bernie Sanders is currently 78 years old, the oldest in the democratic race. He recently experienced a heart attack, which partially affected his third-place standing in the democratic polls. Sanders believes that private prisons should be eliminated and also that teacher pay should be improved. Senator Sander quotes, “Together, together, my friends, we have begun a political revolution to transform America, and that revolution, our revolution, continues!

Now that Senator Warren has passed Joe Biden, most Democratic voters believe that Senator Warren will beat Trump and become president. The race continues, however, and only time will tell who will reach the end.
