Almost everyone is getting excited about the remake of Disney’s Mulan. Disney fans have high expectations for the new live-action movie. Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King grossed about 2 billion combined. In a move different from previous movies, Mulan will not have any of the classic songs or any new ones. Film director Niki Caro is directing the new live-action remake. Most fans do not agree with this decision, but  they still have high hopes that the film will be great. Caro confirmed that the movie will still have the instrumental versions of the songs included throughout the film. This will be the first non-musical movie that Disney has created since 2002 when Lilo and Stitch was released.

Director Caro wanted the musical aspect of the movie to be less of a focus and to go back to the story’s original roots. The book by Robert D. San Souci was thought to be the story’s origin. The story was about a young woman named Fa Mulan who pretended to be a man in order to take her father’s place in the war against the Hun army and its leader. Disney then took the book and made it into an animated musical with iconic songs like I’ll Make a Man Out of You and Reflection. Some people are already disappointed in the remake because these songs will not appear.

On top of the song news, Disney might also replace the beloved Chinese dragon with a phoenix, Mushu. Caro wanted the movie to be a “girly martial arts epic,” so by replacing Mushu, she feels the movie will have more of an attraction for girls. Fans are complaining that the original Mushu is more traditional than a phoenix.

Mulan’s love interest in the original movie, Li Shang, might not be making an appearance in the live-action film. Caro also wants to make the new love interest an ally/new recruit in Mulan’s unit under Commander Tung. The trailer showed many hints on who will be in the actual movie from the animated flick. Shang is one of the main characters in the movie, and his exclusion left many fans disappointed at all of the changes made in the movie.

To show fan disappointment, several voiced their opinion on Twitter some saying, “No Shang. No music. NO MUSHU. DISHONOR ON YOU, DISHONOR ON YOUR COW!” Another said, “Show us Mushu, cowards! #Mulan”. The fan also attached a video with the original Mushu to the post. Fans are disappointed, but still, have hope for the movie even without Mulan’s iconic Reflection moment.
