Audrey Hepburn was an actress, model/fashion icon, and a philanthropist. She was born on May 4, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium, to an English father and a Dutch mother. Her actual name is Audrey Kathleen Ruston or Edda Kathleen Hepburn- Ruston. When Audrey was only 6, her parents divorced because her father was a Nazi sympathizer. For a six- year old, a divorce would be very traumatic since a young child would believe that their parents are their soul mates. She also said that it was ‘‘the most traumatic incident of her life.’’ Even though her early life was kind of rough, she still made a big impact on the world.
As Audrey grew up, she suffered from anorexia. Anorexia is an eating disorder where a person obsesses over what they eat and their weight. During her career, she was known to lose weight under pressure and be strange about what she eats. She also suffered from depression and malnutrition caused by her parents’ divorce.
To help with this, Audrey joined ballet in London. She seemed graceful which later brought her into modeling. This career path that she chose found the love she had for acting and fashion. When she was 22, she starred the Broadway production of Gigi. Two years later, starred in the film Roman Holiday in 1953. She continued to act in movies and model in fashion at the same time. When all of this was happening, she chose to be a philanthropist as well. A philanthropist is a person who donates money, experience, skills or talent to help the world be better for other people. Audrey has been in a total of 22 movies. Like Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Roman Holiday, Sabrina, Funny Face, My Fair Lady, etc.
Besides being in Hollywood, Audrey is also well known for her inspirational quotes. For example, “The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides”. Another famous quote she has is, “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only for words and kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” These quotes that she put out into the world, have helped changed the lives of many people.
As for her love life, Audrey had two husbands, Mel Ferrer, and Andrea Dotti. Audrey had a child with Ferrer, but they both knew that their relationship wasn’t going well. They decided to divorce in November of 1968. Later, Audrey married Andrea Dotti on January 18, 1969. She then became pregnant 4 months into their marriage.
Audrey Hepburn, once an actor, model, and a philanthropist, was an icon for gracefulness and beauty. She is still an idol to lots of people in the world, despite her sad and shocking death from cancer at age sixty-three. The world was devastated to lose such a beautiful soul, on the inside and on the outside. Even though Audrey has passed away, people still continue to keep her alive in their hearts.
