NBA Playoffs

The 2019 NBA playoffs have been going on for the past two weeks, and there have been upsets, clutch shots, and a couple of bloopers here and there. One crazy fact about this is that Lebron James isn’t in the playoffs this year. This is the first time Lebron James hasn’t been in the playoffs since the 2004-2005 season. The main topics about this playoffs are, will the Warriors make the finals this year and Nuggets and trailblazers force quadruple OT for the first time in NBA playoff history since 1953.

As of May 7, 2019, the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets are tied in the series 2-2. The Warriors gave up two games on the road to the Rockets. This series went from a series that looked like it would end soon to some people favoring the Rockets over the Warriors. Stephen Curry, arguably the best player on the Warriors, has been struggling lately and if he continues to play like this, then the Warriors may not make the NBA Finals for the first time in the past four years. At least one thing is certain; there won’t be another Cavaliers, Warriors matchup in the finals for once after they were knocked out of the playoffs months ago. The Rockets are using a strategy no other team uses. The Rockets offense is almost entirely based on statistics. They attempt to make the most out of every possession by taking the most efficient shots. The Rockets are trying to start the new generation of basketball. Game four was the first game where Stephen Curry seemed like the Stephen Curry we were expecting these whole playoffs putting up 30 points only behind Kevin Durant with 34 points and James Harden with 38. Who knows if Curry will have a breakout game in game five which could lead to a potential 3-2 lead in the series, but until then, the Warriors will continue to struggle if Curry doesn’t step up.

Nuggets and trailblazers are the other Western Conference semifinals matchup. The Nuggets were major favorites in this series, but the Trailblazers are showing that they are not going down without a fight. The Nuggets took game 1, and the Trailblazers took game two. Then the historical game 3 occurred. It was a back and forth game. The spectators got their money’s worth and some more with the game going on for not one, not two, but four overtimes! That’s right. It is the first time since 1953 for this to occur in the playoffs. The Blazers would finally take home the win and lead the series 2-1. Damian Lillard has continued to impress just about everyone except for himself, as shown after he makes a game-winning shot at winning the quarterfinals series. Damian Lillard has been phenomenal and is carrying the Trailblazers. The Nuggets are leading the series 3-2 after winning two in a row after going down 1-2. Lillard scored 22 points in game five, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for the Blazers as the Nuggets defeated the Trailblazers 124-98. Now the Trailblazers will have to attempt to make a comeback against the Nuggets or else the Nuggets will advance to the western conference finals to play the winner of the Rockets and the Warriors.

The playoffs have been wild with what seems like a phenomenal highlight every day from some of the best players of the NBA. Damian Lillard winning games for the Blazers, James Harden carrying the Rockets, and the Warriors, for once, struggling to get to the finals.
