On February 24th, the 2019 Oscars was broadcasted on ABC Television Network. During the ninety-first Annual event, many actors, casts, and nominees received awards at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.  For the first time in thirty years, the Oscars went without an official host. After Kevin Hart’s homophobic comments, he was rejected as the host.

For the past two years, the Oscars have been hosted by American television host Jimmy Kimmel. There have been many instances where there are just announcers for Academy Awards rather than a host. The last time this happened was in 1998 when the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences had a legal action filed against them by the Walt Disney Company. Since then, the job of the Oscars’ Host has been the least wanted job in Hollywood.

The main job of the host is to announce the presenters, the award categories, do some stand-up comedy, and perform in a musical number. Some of the presenters for the Oscars included Awkwafina, Constance Wu (From Crazy Rich Asians), Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson (Marvel Studios), Jennifer Lopez, Stephan James, Keegan-Michael Key, KiKi Layne, James McAvoy, Melissa McCarthy, Jason Momoa, and Sarah Paulson.

The best picture award the nominees were Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, A Star Is Born, and Vice. While for the best visual effects, the movies were Avengers: Infinity War, Christopher Robin, First Man, Ready Player One, and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The best actress award nominations went to Yalitza Aparicio who was in the movie Roma, Glenn Close in The Wife, Olivia Colman from The Favourite, Lady Gaga from A Star is Born, and Melissa McCarthy from Can You Ever Forgive Me. While the best actor nominations are Christian Bale from Vice, Bradley Cooper from A Star is Born, Willem Dafoe starring in At Eternity’s Gate, Rami Malek’s role in Bohemian Rhapsody, and Viggo Mortensen from Greenbook.

The Oscars don’t only focus on the biggest movies of the year but also short films, animated, and foreign movies. These categories have nominations from the best foreign films. The nominees are Cold War, Roma, Shoplifters, Never Look Away, and Capernaum.

The 2019 Oscars held many surprises within the host dilemma, though with the many special appearances and events it was be covered up. The movie nominations and selections were amazing.
